The Communications Market Report, an annual report published by Ofcom has recently been released. The report mainly addresses the standing of the TV, broadband, radio, telecoms and mobile industry in the UK.

The £52 billion communications market industry has been intensely scrutinised by Ofcom and the results show that communication is a major component of people’s lives in the UK. The report shows that people are more interested in having mobile and broadband support than spending money on eating out or travel. This effect is more apparent when the world is going through a severe economic turmoil.

May alone saw almost a quarter of a million contracts for mobile broadband services being concluded. Moreover, 12 per cent of UK homes had mobile connection installed by the end of the first three months of the year. Another thing that solidifies the advent of mobile broadband revolution in the UK is that more than half of these homes got a mobile broadband connection in addition to the existing fixed-line broadband connection; presumably, many households having taken advantage of the laptop deals by the service provider. This shows that people consider both of them as essential services now.

The report has therefore confirmed that people in the UK are not scared to splurge on broadband or mobile connections even in the wake of the recent economic recession. However, they are smartly opting for packaged services that guarantee better offers.
